This exquisite pendant and brooch by Louis Comfort Tiffany for Tiffany & Co. is a triumph of Art Nouveau design. At its heart lies a captivating cabochon moonstone totaling 9.00 carats, its soft iridescent blue glow haloed by intricate plique-à-jour enamel in a matching hue. The enamel’s geometric patterns evoke the essence of stained glass, a hallmark of Tiffany’s artistry. The pendant is suspended from an 18K gold openwork chain, which mirrors the circular geometric motifs of the enamel, demonstrating masterful craftsmanship and refined detailing. The design is convertible and can be worn as a necklace or a brooch. Both the pendant and chain showcase the era’s focus on nature-inspired forms and delicate ornamentation, making this a wearable work of art.
Best remembered for his stained glass windows and lamps, along with his Favrile glass, Louis Comfort Tiffany did not begin jewelry design until 1902. Considering the delicacy of his glassworks, his foray into the world of jewelry design seems a natural progression, and his creative output in the jewelry he designed for Tiffany & Co. mirrors many of the Art Nouveau aesthetics he perfected in prior years.
